Slow Cooked Lamb Shanks Part 2

Although we shared some recipes for slow cooker lamb shanks with you the other day, we figure that lamb shanks are so tasty that you can never have too many!  Especially with the cold winter weather outside, lamb shanks make the perfect meal to warm you up at night.  Remember from last time that lamb shanks are a tough cut of meat and therefore need to be slow cooked in order to soften and become nice and tender. So unless you have the time to leave them cooking for around 8 hours, it’s not a good idea to buy shanks for dinner. Below are two of favourite lamb shank recipes for you to try out. You own’t be disappointed with these!

Burgundy Slow Cooker Lamb Shanks

This recipe for slow cooker lamb shanks is extremely easy to prepare. All you need is some time to leave it simmering!

Ingredients to serve 4:

  • 4 lamb shanks
  • 2 tablespoons dried parsley flakes
  • 1 medium carrot, chopped
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated lemon peel
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 cup red wine or beef stock
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil


  1. Season the lamb with salt and pepper.
  2. Place it into a large slow cooker.
  3. Sprinkle the parsley, lemon peel, oregano, and garlic over the lamb.
  4. In a small saucepan, sauté the onion and carrot in olive oil.
  5. Stir in the wine or stock before bringing to a boil.
  6. Pour the stock over the shanks, cover and cook for 8 hours on a low heat.
  7. When done, remove the lamb and skim the fat.
  8. Enjoy.

Slow Cooker Lamb Shanks with Garlic Sauce

This is another easy slow cooker lamb shanks recipe that you can make without any fuss!

Ingredients to serve 4:

  • 4 lamb shanks
  • 1 teaspoon pepper steak seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 500 ml beef stock with garlic
  • 1 brown onion thinly sliced
  • 1/2 tablespoon baby capers

Garlic Sauce:

  • 100g natural European yoghurt
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon fresh garlic paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried dill tops
  • 1 spring onion finely chopped


  1. Season the lamb shanks with pepper steak seasoning and olive oil and place them into a large cooker.
  2. Combine the rest of the ingredients in a large pot, mix well, and then pour over the lamb.
  3. Cook on a low heat for 8 hours.
  4. For the garlic sauce, place the other ingredients in a small bowl and mix. Then refrigerate until needed.
  5. Serve the lamb shanks with garlic sauce and your choice of sides.
